PHONOLOGICAL AWARENESS, PHONEMIC AWARENESS, & PHONICS
There are hundreds of resources inside the Shifting to SOR Membership. Some of those resources are activities to teach phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics. Many of these resources are perfect for small reading groups.
SOUND WALL AND VOWEL VALLEY
Incorporate a Sound Wall and Vowel Valley into your classroom. These visual tools help students connect letters to sounds when learning the 44 phonemes. By using a sound wall, students can better understand how to decode and spell words, making reading and writing easier.
SIGHT WORDS - HEART WORDS
We have "heart word" slideshows that explicitly teach students the "heart" parts to help store these words into memory. Teaching "heart words" helps students learn sight words by focusing on the parts of a word that need to be remembered by heart because they don’t follow regular spelling rules. This method highlights tricky sounds or letters, so students can recognize and read the words quickly.
ROCKIN' PHONICS
Rockin' Phonics is a whole-group phonics curriculum that engages students while they learn their phonics skills. This 28-week PowerPoint Slideshow program involves students blending and segmenting words based on phonics skills using movement, writing, and games. They will beg for more!
